Pete Bangert

Pete BangertAs you have wandered around this site you will already know a good deal about this guy so here are some fill in bits. Pete started his musical career on classical violin before migrating to a knackered acoustic guitar he bought in a swap shop for one and an’aif quid old money. Like many around him, he started learning guitar by listening to people like Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Peter Green, John Mayall, Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull and Wishbone Ash. When he heard the Mahavishnu Orchestra his blues-based world fell apart and his view of guitar music required reappraising. In a perverse way, it inspired him to greater efforts to match the increased expectations laid down by John McLaughlin and his colleagues and he thinks he has produced a remarkable number of excellent products and collaborations on the way as a result.

Golgotha, an original Prog Rock band, was Pete’s first big outing growing out of the Dundee University Rock Band and featuring some of Pete’s original material in the set. (Pete is still threatening to re-record those numbers - well you can’t have everything).

Pete eventually returned to Sheffield, went through a couple of incarnations of Pig’n’aif and then moved down to Oxford where whilst waiting for a band to get off the ground he supported himself with session work, guitar teaching and luthiery. This is where he started to pick up on his studio experience. Once it was clear the project in Oxford was not going to progress much further Pete returned to Sheffield and in addition to studio and live session work in Sheffield, Manchester, Leeds and Hull worked in the club music scene around the North. This included Diamond Jack amongst others.

Dexterity and fingersHe later went on to form Phoenix Rising, dabbled in ToshRollo, as well as continuing the Pig’n’aif cycles.

He is continuing to aid other musos in bringing out their product, producing and playing the backing tracks for artists projects and recording their efforts.

Pete now has a new solo album out, ‘The Jester... thinks...’ recorded under the Pig’n’aif banner and which is available under Rising Records. There is a sample together with a video nasty from the album on the Media Page of this web site. This album brings together some overdue material as well as some new
outings. He has just kicked off the band project ChinWig to gig his latest material and join up with some old musical friends along with his son Krys.

You can find out a lot more information about him on his web site at www.petebangert.co.uk.
