Shrine Of The Monkey’s 2010 debut album ably demonstrates their no frill and visceral approach to hard edged stoner rock. It demonstrates a strong grasp of hooks through riffs with vocal counterpoint and drive.
It features excellent and assured performances from all three musicians. Brian Prosser on lead guitar shows a great delivery of powerful and punchy chord and lead riffing throughout the album. Brian also delivers the majority of the lead vocal and demonstrates an impressive and powerful vocal range. Rick Gregory has an firm grasp on the fundamentals and mechanics of the craft of bass guitar and brings all of his experience to bear in this album giving an outstanding foundation for Brian’s lead lines and linking fully with Kev Lee on drums. Rick also sing lead vocals on some numbers on the album and provides backing vocal to Brian as required. Kevin’s drumming is measured and effective without being flash which brings a fundamental solidity to the rhythmic structure of the band. All together an excellent studio debut from a very good live act. All tracks are credited to and written jointly by the band.
